The Current Situation

The world of publishing is experiencing radical change.

The number of electronic journals, which are licensed rather than sold, is growing every year, while the annual total of newly published books has remained fairly stable over the years.

Meanwhile, service bureaus are always looking for new sources of revenue and Kirtas technology will now allow them to pitch new markets, including R&D companies, pharmaceuticals, government and more.

Book scanning capabilities will allow them to accept projects that they have turned away. If they have accepted bound document projects in the past, very likely the books have been is-bound and then manually or semi-automatically scanned through sheet-fed scanners. These are the most labor intensive projects.

Service bureaus will also be attracted to the automated nature of the robotic book scanner and the fact that a single operator can manage multiple machines.

Finally, the reliability of a system designed to handle three shifts a day will also be an important selling feature.

The Kirtas Value Proposition:

For both the service bureau and publishing industry, Kirtas technology offers one of the lowest capture costs in the business. In addition, the image enhancement features often produce results that are superior to the original. OCR and XML tagging can also be important, depending upon the nature of the specific project, and Kirtas' software solutions offer one of the most accurate character recognition alternatives and comprehensive indexing solutions available today.

Is a Kirtas solution right for you?

Contact Kirtas and answer these simple questions.

  1. What is the size of your back list?
  2. If you could economically produce between 200 and 1000 copies of any books in limited demand, would you be interested?
  3. Have you recently turned down any requests for bound document scanning because you couldn’t do it cost-effectively for your clients?
  4. Are there any markets you have been reluctant to pitch because of your lack of book scanning capabilities?
