Secure Data Storage

One of the great goals of digitization is to preserve knowledge and keep it accessible not only to the public but for future generations.

In that respect, digitized files provide unparalleled value. Books age and crumble. They can require huge amounts of storage space and suitable environmental conditions. Duplicating a collection is an overwhelming task -- in the case of rare, fragile or one-of-a-kind volumes, it can be an impossible task. Everything from fires to neglect to political persecution can destroy them.

Human history and human memory has been repeatedly scarred by the irreparable loss and destruction of books, libraries, and knowledge.

But now digitization changes all that.

Digitized files never decay, require next to no space, can be duplicated in a matter of minutes, and transferred around the world in seconds. There is no safer or more secure way to preserve and indeed liberate human knowledge.

The fact remains, even digitized files can be lost.

So during the digitization process, Kirtas utilizes RAID 10 mirroring technology to create backups for material being digitized.

Upon completion, the books are stored in a RAID 10 configuration at Kirtas Technologies located in a separate building from our production facility. The RAID 10 is maintained at an offsite facility.

In this way Kirtas can provide its clients not only digitized documents but safe and secure off-site backups that guarantee that regardless of accidents or mishap, complete copies of their valuable and important material will always be available and preserved.
