On Demand

From Books to Bytes…and Back Again!

Since 2001, Kirtas has worked with the world’s most renowned libraries to bring rare, out-of-copyright books into the digital age, making centuries-worth of books available to the world.

Now, Kirtas is teaming up with libraries, publishers and content providers from around the world to make hundreds of thousands of titles available to the public in a unique way.

Using existing records from any modern catalog system, Kirtas is able to offer out-of-copyright and out-of-print books for sale through its own retail site, www.kirtasbooks.com

What makes this initiative unique is that the books can be offered for sale before they are ever digitized, so there is no up-front printing, production or storage cost.

For example, a library can select the records of 50,000 out-of-copyright books, which can then almost immediately be listed on Kirtasbooks.com for resale. The book is never actually pulled from storage, digitized, processed or printed until a customer purchases the book.

Benefits Outweigh the Risks!

Eliminate the risks involved with other print-on-demand models, as well as the guesswork involved in selecting the books from your collection that will sell.

Distribution rights are non-exclusive so your books can also be made available through other distribution channels upon request. Current Kirtas Scan and Print on Demand (SPOD) customers can also request that their current print-on-demand selections be uploaded to www.kirtasbooks.com
